From Star Wars: Galactic Insights
Seven years after the Battle of Yavin, Darth Vader is dead, Palpatine is presumably dead, Yoda had passed away, and The New Republic have taken Coruscant back from what remains of the Empire.
The Jedi Order had begun it's reformation, taking Yavin IV as its home - the old ways of the Order born anew in its recruits - however unable it may be to afford the exacting standards of it's predecessor. The Sith, in less conspicuous ways, were also recovering from the fall of Galactic Empire.
Just one year ago, the New Republic halted guerrilla warfare and began the use of open tactics to get what they wanted - the government's resurrection shown most hardily in its newly uniformed soldiers and pilots. With this new wealth available to them, the New Republic began capturing worlds in the Core System, establishing Coruscant as their capitol.
The Empire struggled to maintain what was once unquestionably theirs and skirmishes still broke out between the newly established Republic and the crippled Remnant forces.
The New Republic, under the presidency of President Layke Kahm'nt, led the campaign against The Remnant Empire, held within the iron fist of Emperor Caspian Marok and Empress Arienne Marok. President Kahmn't pushed against the Remnant through several campaigns with his newly constructed fleet in an attempt to prove the new might of the fallen Republic - and a period of enormous strife shuddered through the two governing bodies of the galaxy as deaths mounted on each side of the battlefield.
This clash of heads was brought to a halt under Emperor Caspian; Layke Kahmn't and his clones were killed approximately three times, and the Empire wrested control of the galaxy as the New Republic scrambled to maintain its holdings amidst the terrifying show of power.
President Jaraq Creole surfaced, and with him a new age of prosperity came. Under his many years of service, the Republic offered pacts and signed peace treaties with the reformed Empire and for a time, the galaxy was in harmony.
Never to last, a Black Sun leader by the alias "Turkish" stepped from the shadows of his hidden empire and sought to wreak havok between the two peaceful nations. A rash of thefts plagued the Empire's fleet, the vessels appearing in Republic capitals and hangars. Emperor Caspian demanded explanations, to find the President Jaraq Creole had evidence of an alternate organization's involvement: The Black Sun syndicate.
A crackdown on all criminal activities united the organized governments, the Black Sun becoming the new target. Turkish fled into the depths of Nar Shadda and for a time, the galaxy was in peace again.
Age takes all creatures, and it is so with the long-lived Emperor and the peace-keeping President - and the universe continued on.
Kyli Zraii, former CEO of Zraii Industries, took the reigns of the New Republic, developing new ranks, laws, and a basic infrastructure of government not seen under former presidents. Vice President Max von Hessen served as the Republic's arm, acting within his powers to keep the Republic stabilized. The Empire was inherited by a man known simply as Emperor Malidiuse - though his reign of propeganda and empty threats was short-lived, assassinated brutally by a name that would, in later years, still make the denizens of the galaxy shudder: Roran James Archayen.
Archayen usurped the throne and ruled with a gaunleted hand. Since Palpatine, no Emperor had presented the force of will or lack of mercy necessary to bring the entire galaxy under one banner - Roran had plans to change this. And so he did, the planets of the galaxy falling one by one to the Empire's new strength and with Kyli Zraii's resignation and defection to the Empire - the broken Republic was held only by grip of the new President, Arriana Zyglos.
With the arm of the Republic Max von Hessen missing in action, and the Warlord Sith Archayen raging across the landscape war, the Republic struggled to hold the Empire at bay - chipped away by it's ever-growing rival.
Roran finally took the fight to the Senate, and the final Battle of Coruscant ended sharply with the execution of Arriana Zyglos and some rebel officers by a contingent of stormtroopers led by Emperor Archayen himself. The Republic had crumbled to it's core.
Admiral Halan Gen'Khan of the New Republic, however, claimed the Presidency and sought to push back the Empire - his organized fleet rising the terrified people of the Republic to a rise against their Imperial conquerors. Gaining ground and support, the Republic managed strategic victories - pressing the few weak points in Roran's armies and taking Coruscant with pinpoint attacks on stationed forces.
With Kuat in his eye, Admiral Gen'Khan moved onward - deploying troopers to take the planet by force. Sovereign General Vger Stormbringer of the Empire stood his ground, taking waving after wave of Republican troopers at the Battle of Kuat. This show of force demanded one of his own - and Halan's fleet let loose a series of bombing runs. Unbeknownst to the Admiral, however, was the approach of the ISD Bastion. In a feat to go down in history, the crew of the ISD Bastion disabled Halan's behemoth and without delay captured the Republic's beacon of hope. Rumours continue to circulate about the crew of Halan's capital ship, and of Halan himself - history still undecided as to what had happened to them once the Empire infiltrated, though, no crew member has been seen since.
With this, the Jedi Order stepped in, as they did in years past, and took the Republic to holdfast it's ideals with its constant losses. Master Garret Brant was appointed for the duty, and with his newly appointed title, negotiated a peace treaty with the Empire. The Republic incurred a huge war debt, but the Empire released some of the captured planets back to the Republic. The "act of mercy" was made more out of bemusement by the Sith Lord as the Republic struggled to feed its armies. The Empire was, once again, at the height of it's power.
Two years later, Emperor Archayen's ship was spotted leaving known space and never returned. History has not yet provided a reason for this disappearance. Vger Stormbringer assumed control of the Empire as Military Executor, announcing that the Emperor was still alive, and that he was making every effort to find him and return him to the throne.
Vger Stormbringer's quest soon led him to his untimely death, committing suicide under the stress of his ever-growing Empire, and the continuing failures to locate Emperor Archayen.
A lone Sith by the name of Nova Rin assumed throne as Empress, appearing as Roran had - from nowhere. A new President by the name of Artemis Ink was elected to the Republic, the Order once again stepping down from it's political role. The Sith, weakened with the loss of their long-time master, sought a final blow, under the guise of stalemate negotiations with the Republic.
The trap closed on the elderly President, attacked on his personal vessel, The Templar, by Nova Rin and her cohort, Nemer'na'Beatha. Discovering the intentions, Ink set the self destruct on his vessel, killing himself and the Empress - Nemer escaping as the vessel exploded into pieces.
The Empire's power gap was quickly filled by Grand Moff Ville Vjorn, who stepped sternly forward to head the recently plagued organization. Vice President Solysh Malocchio was appointed to head the Republic, though his reign was far shorter lived than his predecessor; succumbing to a Heat Storm during a diplomatic meeting to Ryloth within the first few weeks of his term. Admiral Slukt rose to command. The leadership of the governments had changed hands many times, however, neither were deterred from holding the galaxy as their own!
As Slukt took control, the Republic took a whole new look on 'diplomatic negotiations.' Slukt almost immediately ordered the bombardment of Empire outposts, such as Byss, and Corellia; allegedly to dishonor the dead Emperors before Count Vjorn. Not to be outdone, Vjorn took the planet of Coruscant by force. At this time, Slukt flew into the Byss sector, and began orbital bombardment of the Empires capital planet. To counter, Vjorn summoned his newest creation: The Wicker Man - a battleship of the highest caliber. After a lengthy battle in space with the Republic flagship, the MC90, the Wicker Man was finally defeated, and the Republic was free again to take control of the skies as it saw fit. With no resistance to the push, many wondered if the age-old battle between the Republic and the Empire was finally coming to a close...
After the Republic's defeat of the Empire's capital ship, The Wicker Man, the Empire quickly succumbed to the protests of the citizens. World after world revolted and rioted while the Empire's vaults drained to attempt to keep the peace. In a spectacular feat, Emperor Vjorn was shot down over Coruscant by a New Republic pilot, finally ending the war between the two governments. Moff Nemer'na'Beatha became the new Emperor. However, he was quick to submit to the Republic and hand over most of the space the Empire controlled.
As history tells us, the weak are not fit to lead. Two Sith had been training in secret. Dark Lord Zaric Illiryn and his apprentice, Lord Rotan Andras. Meeting the Emperor on Coruscant under false pretenses, Illiryn lured him to his ship, where a fierce battle ensued. Andras was killed in the crossfire, but Illiryn managed to prevail and kill Beatha, seizing the Empire for his own.
The Republic went through several Chancellors, the Senate becoming angry with the failure of it's leaders. One commit suicide, others were killed by stupidity, some assassinated. In total, seven Chancellors had fallen in only two years, before a man named Jackson Cypher took over. Like the others, he did next to nothing to help the Republic, but his term was much longer lived than the previous Chancellors.
Meanwhile, Zaric Illiryn and his new apprentice, Zidane lead the Empire relatively peacefully, until they both impacted the Byss sun and died. Emperor Gaius took over, but he was murdered by his apprentice, Lord Grayn, after less than a week on the Throne. Grayn attacked the Republic through many means, but it was not until Lord Roran Archayen returned from the Outer Worlds before things really heated up. Lord Grayn returned the Throne to Archayen and submitted to his Master, returning to a place as Executor.
Roran's return renewed the Empire's faith in its leadership. Republican worlds fell quickly as the Empire pushed against it. Roran Archayen rebuilt the fleet, restored ties with the Empire's old ally, Blacksun, and pushed hard against the Republic. It was no suprise when Lord Grayn captured and killed Chancellor Jackson on Coruscant two months after Archayen's return. Chancellor Krayn and Vice-Chancellor Cynan took over the Republic.
However, things hit a brick wall for the Republic when a smuggler named Dayanee Aelita ran the MC90 into the sun, killing the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, and almost all of the Senior Rebel leaders. The Galaxy was in shock as the attack was so unsuspected, no one knew what to think. For three days, there was no rebel government. The Empire took this time to position the Bastion, the Galatea, and the Dark Hand at the outer edges of the Coruscant System, as well as moving other key ships to positions over the few remaining Republican Worlds.
On the night of Chancellor Vraen Blox's election, the Empre Struck back. The Bastion, the Dark Hand, and the Galatea warped into Coruscant system. Grand Admiral Torhbyn, commanding officer of the Bastion and of the attack, called for surrender. He was ignored as a lone Cruiser turned to face the Fleet. The Bastion opened up, flanked by the Gatea and the Dark Hand. The shields of the Cruiser had been disabled by an imperial slicer, so the battle was very quick. The ships then moved into Coruscant, launching fighters to deal with the defenses on Coruscant and bomb key structures. The whole attack lasted less than an hour. Nar Shadda, Hoth, and Mon Calamari likewise followed under Imperial forces. Vraen Blox and six marines were trapped in the Senate Hall as Imperial Forces under the command of Grand Admiral Kester Torhbyn stormed the Hall. Taking the Chancellor into custody, he was forced to submit to the Empire.
Lord Archayen appeared before the Senate, asking for the surrender of the Republic. It was given with haste with a vote of 764 to 96. The Republic was disbanded and all of its assets were plundered and looted by the Empire. The Jedi were absent during the entire battle, but it is certain they exist still on Yavin.
